Why are there so few Asian beach reads?
Baltimore Book Festival
CityLit Stage
September 29, 2018
Time: 1-2:30 PM
Come join a panel of talented Asian American authors (myself included!) while we discuss Why are there so few Asian beach reads? at the Baltimore Book Festival! Curated by blogger Eliza Romero. We’ll talk about the Asian American role in this genre and what it means for us:
The idea is to unravel through conversation the reason for the dearth of lighthearted, fun and fluffy reads in Asian American literature. Are we only appreciated if we write tragic, weighty stories?
As a Korean adoptee, I’ll be addressing the shortage of Asian representation in this space and what it means for transracial adoptees, who grew up without familial racial mirrors.
